Smitten, a good bet!

Trainer Rameshwar Gujadhur sacked jockey Mark Neisius following the running of meeting 9. He may be proved right if horse Smitten makes it in Race 2. And I believe he will!

Meeting 10 – Saturday May 18th 2013

Race 1 – Rating 25-0 – 1500m

Top 3

Over The Ocean :

This young horse ran a promising second behind Urbi Et Orbi in his last run. He is consistently on the up and in this poor field, I believe he will give a tough time to his opponents in the straight.

Fort Noble : He is still without a single win after 22 attempts. He came in the money ten times. He is competitive in a 25-0 race and punters must make sure they don’t ignore him.

Hopes And Desires : He ran a good race behind Mobschief a few weeks ago before a disappointing run behind Kite Surfer. His trainer has freshened things up and he seems ready to take another run. He can’t be ignored.

Betting proposition: Over The Ocean

Place : Fort Noble, Hopes And Desires

Race 2 – Rating 31-15 – 1000m

Top 3

Smitten : Even if he has not scored yet, he will be the horse to beat in this one. He showed glimpses of his ability in his two races so far and he was tremendous on Tuesday. He was just flying!

Campus : He remains a difficult horse to ride. He did not disgrace last time behind Kite Surfer. He ran on but he was hanging badly as usual. He is well drawn and he stands a chance.

Destiny’s Tales : He came very close last time. He went to the lead but just failed on the line against Cassido. He is on scintillating form but he will have to overcome a bad draw.

Betting proposition : Smitten

Place : Campus, Destiny’s Tale

Race 3 – Rating 36-20 – 1600m

Top 4

Marine Skye : This horse will open up his account sooner rather than later. He has got ability. He did well in a 41-25 race behind Joyful in his first start this year. He will be competing in a 36-20 race this week. So, he is in with a good shout!

Carcassonne : I don’t think he is 100% ready but as he has been always consistent in his runs, I’ll give him a vote. He performed ok on Tuesday. Afterall, he is a ‘five-time winner’ in Mauritius!

Moon Raider : He gave a good account of himself a few weeks ago behind Forest Shelter. He is improving and I was impressed on Tuesday when he had a very nice gallop. He will be right there.

Shakleton : He is dropping in class. As he has performed last time over sprint, I believe he will be a threat this week over a mile. He will also start from the best draw.

Betting proposition: Marine Skye

Place : Carcassonne, Moon Raider

Race 4 – Rating 41-25 – 1365m

Top 2

Even Chance: He came quite close last time over 1500m. He looked winner before throwing the towel towards the end. He is well drawn and if he is not challenged in the lead, he may get back to winning ways.

Pageantry: He was never in trouble last time. He dictated things before sprinting home. He will be in the box seat this time right behind Even Chance. He may eye double as he is holding his nice form.

Challenger : Variant, who scored last time out with local rider Bhaugeerothee.

Betting proposition: Even Chance

Place : Pageantry, Variant

Race 5 – Rating 66-50 – 1850m

Top 3

Solar Symbol : At 8, he is still the best competitor in this one. He won back in December against good horses before starting up beautifully against the likes of Abington. Despite his top weight, he will be putting another good fight in this race.

Prince Of Troy : He is showing vast improvement this year winning two in a row. Last time he impressed at finish. Even if he will be now competing against better horses, I believe he is good enough.

Lord Googol : Better ignore his last run when he pulled too hard in the early stages, thus affecting his chances in the home straight. He is looking good and I believe he will much more competitive this time without the blinkers.

Betting proposition: Solar Symbol, Prince Of Troy

Place : Lord Googol

Race 6 – Rating 50+ (Gr.3) – 1000m

Top 4

Casey’s War : He is coming after several weeks of rest. He had the better of Green Keeper last time. He followed and fired! He will benefit from a hot pace and there is no doubt he will be right there at finish.

Ice Axe : He is the Horse of The Year 2012. He is a classy sort. He is not 100% ready but he showed signs of good improvement during the week. As he is a class above in this field, he has got only the 1000m against him!

Prince Paseo : He is the record holder over 1000m. True he has not got the class of horses like Ice Axe and Casey’s War but he is lightly handicapped and from draw 1, he remains a threat.

Eskimo Roll : He has a run under the belt. He was not ready in his first start this year. Remember he won six races in 2012. The 1000m is not a problem. He has got sufficient pace. He is well and he remains a big threat.

Betting proposition: Casey’s War, Ice Axe

Place : Prince Paseo, Eskimo Roll

Race 7 – Rating 25-0 – 1500m

Top 2

Wingman : He had his blinkers moved during the race last time when he ran a good third, less than two lengths behind Isipho. He is showing signs of improvement lately and I will give him a vote as he has been working well this week.

Imperial Palace : He was poorly ridden last time. He raced among the leaders and had nothing to offer in the final straight. He is better when ridden midfield. He is looking fit and I think he is in with a chance.

Betting proposition: Wing Man

Place : Imperial Palace

Race 8 – Rating 46-30 – 1365m

Top 3

Amazing Bolt : He is coming after a few weeks rest. He performed beautifully behind the good Liam last time out. On this run, he definitely stands a chance. He has improved dramatically this year.

Freedom : He will score in 2013. He won a good race in 2012 and I can’t see why he won’t perform well this year. He is looking very nice and as he has been lucky with the draws, he will be right there at finish.

Flaming Al : He has yet to score in Mauritius. He did have one or two good runs last year. He is looking very good and he did better than Ice Axe on Tuesday. That’s why I won’t write him off.

Betting proposition: Amazing Bolt

Place : Freedom, Flaming Al

Ryder Cup a super banker?

Stable Foo Kune and jockey Burke are in scintillating form. After demolishing their opponents last week, they are in with a very strong chance again in Race 2 this week with Ryder Cup who looks like a super banker!

Meeting 9 – Saturday May 11th 2013

Race 1 – Rating 31-15 – 1650m

Top 3

Please To Progress : He was a beaten favourite last time but he did run on in the final stages. With a run under the belt, he will be very dangerous this time. Don’t forget, he won two in a row last year.

The Balladeer : He showed good improvement a few weeks ago behind Obama. This horse will surely open up his account this year. In this field, he is a good contender. His form at training is improving.

Beat That : His rider was questioned last time for unnecessarily restrained his mount in the early stages, hence following too far back. This horse will be competitive in this class and I’ll give him a vote.

Betting proposition: Please To Progress, The Balladeer

Place : Beat That, The Balladeer

Race 2 – Rating 22-0 – 1365m

Top bet

Ryder Cup : He is a very promising young horse who came thrice runner-up back in South Africa. In his debut run he showed good ability by coming second behind Commodore Pete. He followed and fired but the winner was too good on that day. He is fitter with a run under the belt. From draw 1, he will be very hard to beat in this poor field. He is my banker of the day!

Betting proposition : Ryder Cup

Place : Ball Park

Race 3 – Rating 41-25 – 1000m

Top 3

Mighty Mars : Without doubt he is the best horse in the race. He stayed one-paced on his come-back this year behind Gida who competed against good opponents last week. He is looking good at training and despite his big mass, he will be the horse to beat here.

Chieftan : He will have his first start in Mauritius. He is a 1000m specialist having won twice over back in South Africa. He had a good barrier-test last week. He is a quick beginner. He stands a chance.

Match Play : He was squeezed shortly after the start last time out. He was outpaced in the early stages and he never came back. He is a good contender over 1000m and if his rider gets him in a nice position, he will represent a threat for the opposition.

Betting proposition: Mighty Mars, Chieftan

Place : Chieftan

Race 4 – Rating 36-20 – 1500m

Top 2

Isipho : If there is one horse who can stop Kite Surfer from winning, it’s him. He is a nice little horse who has got a very nice turn of foot. He showed last time what he is capable of. Things will be harder this time, but he remains one of the main candidates.

Kite Surfer : He is on the up. He made it two in a row last time and he is looking for a third consecutive win. He is improving each of his races and he was very good at training this week. But will he have the lead this week? I’m not sure. For me, it will be Umhlanga in the lead!

Betting proposition: Isipho

Place : Kite Surfer

Race 5 – Rating 56-40 – 1650m

Top 2

C Major : I suppose jockey Rama did not believe in his chance last time. C Major turned a bit wide but ran on to come a good second behind the impressive Prince Of Troy. He is dropping in class this week and for me, he is the best runner. But he will have however to overcome his top mass.

Captain Vedici : He will make it sooner rather than later. He was unlucky not to hit the front at the winning post last time beaten by How Many To Won. He was tried with blinkers this week on the grass. He is a good horse. He may beat the jinx.

Betting proposition: C Major, Captain Vedici

Place : Arabian Empire

Race 6 – Rating 60+ - 1500m

Top 3

Solo Traveller : He ran a fantastic race in the Duchess. There is more to come from this horse. He was terrific at training this week. With a run under the belt, he has got every chance to make it gain.

Top Seller : He was really unlucky to come second behind Solo Traveller in the Duchess. He was tactically beaten in the back straight. But he made up a lot of ground in the straight. He may seek revenge on Saturday.

Tandragee : He scored twice against Ice Axe last year. He is a tremendous horse with loads of ability. He has got pace and a tremendous finish. He has improved a lot these past few weeks. With only 52.5kg on his back, he will be right there!

Betting proposition: Solo Traveller, Top Seller

Place : Tandragee

Race 7 – Rating 66-50 – 1500m

Top 3

Abington : He nearly made it against Solar Symbol on his comeback this year. He looked winner before giving up in the dying stages. He is back to best and if he can perform to expectations, he will be among the first three at the winning post.

Liquid Motion : He is still unbeaten after two runs. He is the best performer at the Merven stable since the start of the racing calendar. His main attribute is his devastating finish. He remains one of the top candidates in this race.

Mining Prospect : This horse has got class and he did have a very nice run last time behind Hot Rocket. He is very quick at the gates and I’m expecting him to shine from pillar to post if he is not challenged in the lead.

Betting proposition: Abington, Liquid Motion

Place : Mining Prospect

Race 8 – Rating 46-30 – 1850m

Top 3

Carson City : He was only beaten by a good Ghost Dog last time. He moved nicely rounding the home turn and put up a good fight. When he races at his best, he always threatens. He stands a chance.

Halabaloo : I will ignore his first run behind How Many To Won. He was strongly fancied by his connections but he over-raced in the early parts, hence had no finish in the straight. Jockey Geroudis says he has got class. So better trust him!

How Many To Won : He had a hard-fought win a few weeks ago. He went to the lead, dictated things and stayed there despite the challenge of Captain Vedici. But I believe things will be much more difficult this time.

Betting proposition: Carson City

Place : Halabaloo

Race 9 – Rating 51-35 – 1500m

Top 3

Kruger Rand : He was never in it last time. But the way he performed behind the good Liquid Motion in his debut run suggests he is going to win a few races. He is dropping in class and as he will jump from a good draw, I believe he stands a chance.

Shahruhk : The Racing Stewards questioned his rider last time but no action was taken against the latter. He was a bit outpaced entering the home turn but he did run on to run a promising second behind Beach Club. He is worth a bet.

Liam : He is looking for a third consecutive win. He is constantly on the up but he will be facing a tougher opposition compared to last time. But if he gets the lead, he may win it tactically. He deserves respect.

Betting proposition: Kruger Rand, Shahruhk

Place : Liam

Can Glitter Star catch Accelero?

A good match between Irishmen Robbie Brurke and Richard Mullen can be expected in the main race this week. I’m expecting in fact Glitter Star and Accelero to fight it out at finish. Let’s hope I’m right! I also fancy Urbi Et Orbi in Race 3.

Meeting 8 – Saturday May 4th 2013

Race 1 – Rating 25-0 – 1650m

Top 4

Amaphupho : His saddle slipped badly last time and he dislodged his rider 150m to the winning post. Without this incident, jockey Daby is sure he would have beaten Obama. He came from last to round the field at the 300m. So, there is no reason not to give him a vote.

Rulerofmyheart : He won a good race last week despite being caught one-off throughout. He is on the up this year and we can expect him to run another competitive race on Saturday. He can make it two!

Baron Blixen : He is coming after weeks of rest. He scored well last time out with jockey Juglall. He ran on beautifully at finish. In this field, he is one of the most consistent performers. He can make it again.

Baynesfield : I’m not sure a back to back win is possible in his case. But the fact remains that he won easily last time and if he proves consistent, he will be right there again. I don’t really like him but he can’t be written off!

Betting proposition: Amaphupho, Rulerofmyheart

Place : Baron Blixen

Race 2 – Rating 51-35 – 1000m

Top 3

Adeste Fidelis : Jockey Burke rode a poor race last time ignoring a gap on the inside of Man Of His Word. He ran on at finish but unfortunately it was too late to catch Weiland. If he moves at the right time, he may get back to the winner’s box.

Valmorne : He was not outclassed by Hail Atlantis last time. He is a consistent horse who will surely find his feet sooner rather than later. He is looking very well and he definitely stands a chance here.

Man Of His Word : Last time he had enough before rounding home. He had a tough run trying to chase Weiland in the lead. This time he is drawn one. So watch out!

Betting proposition : Adeste Fidelis, Valmorne

Place : Man Of His Word

Race 3 – Rating 31-15 – 1500m

Top 4

Urbi Et Orbi : He was a beaten favourite on his comeback this year. He did really well in 2012. Last time he was caught wide and circumstances did not favour him. This time with a run under the belt, things will be different in a lower class. He stands a strong winning chance here.

Dreams Come True : He got off to a brilliant start this year and now he is chasing a third consecutive win. He showed in his last two runs he is a strong finisher. For me he is the second best chance in this one behind Urbi Et Orbi.

Spacebeam : He was very disappointing behind Obama over a mile. He travelled off pace but made no impression in the home straight. True, jockey Burke took him back to avoid the falling Daby. But he was not a threat at that stage of the race. May be, the Draper’s Mile will suit him better this time.

Kumba-Ya : He was poorly ridden last time travelling wide from the 1200m. But he was not outpaced at finish, putting up a good fight to the 100m. He is competitive enough here and as he has been working well, I think he does need consideration here.

Betting proposition: Urbi Et Orbi

Place : Dreams Come True

Race 4 – Rating 41-25 – 1650m

Top 2

Don’t Say Don’t : He ran two good races so far behind the good Captain Tempest and Seeking Angelo. He is coming up nicely. He is well drawn in the pens and I do believe he is good enough to shine here in a relatively poor field. He is one of the best chances of jockey Ségeon this week.

Siegfried : He showed vast improvement in his last run when he came a good second behind Eagle Award. If he shows consistency, he will run on at finish again. And if he does, he will be a threat in the final furlong.

Outsider : Salvador Dali who will well at finish.

Betting proposition: Don’t Say Don’t, Siegried

Place : Siegfried

Race 5 – Rating 56-40 – 1500m

Top 4

Gida : He was a surprised winner last time when he started brilliantly in Mauritius. He finished strongly to open up his account. He definitely has got ability and as he has performed well at training, he may eye double.

Monsieur Dane : He did not disgrace behind Prince Of Troy in his last attempt. He went fast but failed to keep going in the final furlong. He benefited from this run as he is looking fit and well at training. This time, I believe he will be among the first three at the winning post.

Trianius : He won a good race last time. He followed handy and found extra in the final furlong. He is a good competitor at his best. He did pretty well at training on Tuesday and he can’t be ignored even if things will be tougher this time.

Ashanti Gold : He needed his last start behind Prince Of Troy. He stayed one-paced at finish. Since then it looks like he has improved. But whether he can shine coming from behind remains to be seen as I’m expecting Monsieur Dane to be in the lead.

Betting proposition: Gida, Monsieur Dane

Place : Traianius

Race 6 – Rating 66-50 – 1400m

Top 2

Accelero : He was never in doubt under the saddle of jockey Juglall last time. He went to the lead quite easily and never gave up in the straight. True he will be competing in a stronger field this time but as he has improved since his latest run, he will be a hard nut to crack. He will be in the lead once more and he won’t give up without a fight. Winning chance!

Glitter Star : Despite not influencing finish in the Duchess of York Cup, he was not outpaced. He came less than three lengths behind Solo Traveller who is a much better horse. This time, with a good run under the belt, this horse will be competing in a class where he will be very competitive. I’m expecting him to put on a good challenge. Winning chance too!

Outsider : Bolting Cat who will benefit from his top draw.

Betting proposition: Accelero, Glitter Star

Place : Bolting Cat

Race 7 – Rating 46-30 – 1500m

Top 2

The Last Samurai : He is struggling to open up his account in Mauritius. He is consistent and always competitive but he just could not beat the jinx. He is looking sharp at training and jockey Burke will give him every chance to shine.

Pattaya Beach : He was not outclassed a few weeks ago behind the good Seeking Angelo. He made his move in the back straight and stayed one-paced in the final straight. Tactically he is in with a chance here.

Betting proposition: The Last Samurai

Place : Pattaya Beach

Race 8 – Rating 36-20 – 1365m

Top 4

Sands Of Fire : He nearly made it last time before giving it away in the last strides against Joyful. I’m sure this horse will have his fair share of wins this year. He is a very promising young horse who is showing lots of good things at training. He may open up his account here.

Cassido : He is the fastest horse in the race. He won a good 1000m race last time coming from behind to pip Destiny’s Tale at the winning post. I’m expecting him to be in the lead and if he runs freely, he may stay there till the finishing line.

Admirals Cup : He will do very well in 2013. He won a race last year but lacked consistency as he was still immature. He is still a young horse but he has had enough time to learn the track. With him drawn one, he will be a big threat.

Burberry : He won going away last time. He followed handy but still he found extra to win easily. He is looking good again but it’s a big question mark whether he can reproduce his latest winning form.

Betting proposition: Sands Of Fire, Cassido

Place : Admirals Cup

When will Mullen score?

Irish jockey Richard Mullen can’t wait to bring home his first winner in Mauritius. After two disappointing meetings so far, will he break the ice this coming Saturday? My choices for the week : Forest Shelter and Lord Googol.

Meeting 7 – Saturday April 27th 2013

Race 1 – Rating 22-0 – 1500m

Top 3

Final Frontier : He ran a good second last time behind Royal Day. He finished the strongest in the home straight. If he can prove consistent, he will surely show at finish in this weak field.

Rulerofmyheart : He will win a race or two this year in the lower classes. He was only beaten by the promising Kite Surfer last time out. He is one of the best candidates here.

Arc Royal : Better ignore his comeback this year when he was outclassed by Baynesfield. He had respiratory difficulties according to his trainer. If he runs to the best of his ability, he will be right there at finish. He looks good enough at training.

Betting proposition: Final Frontier

Place : Rulerofmyheart

Race 2 – Rating 66-50 – 1000m

Top 3

Mr Black Tom : He opened up his account convincingly in his last start. He followed and fired. He is still in good shape and despite his top weight, he may double his tally.

Allocation : He had a dream run in his first start this year but he just could not find more against Mr Black Tom in the straight. He is a quick beginner who will jump from a good draw. He may make it this time.

Prince Paseo : He was not outclassed in his last run behind Weiland. He was looking a bit fat in the parade ring. He has improved since and he stands an outsider chance.

Betting proposition : Mr Black Topm, Allocation

Place : Prince Paseo

Race 3 – Rating 36-20 – 1650m

Top Bet

Forest Shelter : We better ignore his first run this year. He was not fully fit. I saw him on Tuesday. He is looking nice and despite his heavy mass, I do believe he will take a lot of beating in this race.

Betting proposition: Forest Shelter

Place : Double Dash

Race 4 – Rating 41-25 – 1500m

Top 3

Royal Times : He was disappointing behind Captain Tempest on Day 2. But this is a horse who performed really well in 2012. He is coming after rest and I believe he will run an improved race on Saturday. I will give him a vote.

Dynastar : He had a convincing year in 2012 winning three in a row before suffering defeat in his last start. He will be having his first run this year. He is a nice horse having good pace. He will try to lead and if he is not challenged, he won’t give up easily in the final furlong.

Fidelis : He won a race last year but he is still far from his best South African form. He was pretty average behind Captain Tempest in his first attempt this year. He has improved since and in this field, I won’t write him off.

Betting proposition: Royal Times

Place : Dynastar

Race 5 – Rating 46-30 – 1400m

Top 3

Alvaro : He did not disgrace behind Gida a few weeks ago. He is dropping in class and it’s the very first time he will be competing in a 46-30 race. In my opinion, he may prove too good here despite the fact that he has not won a race since June 2011.

Iwayini : He is a nice little horse who did pretty well late on in 2012. He enjoys running freely and I believe his rider will try to get him to the lead. If he races unchallenged, he may stay there till the winning post!

Winter Skye : He looked winner in his last run. He followed with pace, moved up at the 300m and hit front mid-straight. However he had nothing to offer against Gida. He is in terrific form and he stands a chance.

Betting proposition: Alvaro

Place : Iwayini

Race 6 – Rating 60+ - 1600m

Captain’s Key : He surprised a lot of pundits last time when he fought on well behind Solar Symbol and Abington. He is a good horse who has benefited a lot from his first run. From his good draw, he remains a big threat.

Solar Captain : He was among the best performers of trainer Maingard in 2012 winning his first three races. He had a good gallop on Wesnesday and even if there is still room for improvement, he may steal the show as he is a good horse with a touch of class.

Intercontinental : He deserves respect. He is a classy sort who may be is not yet at his best. For me, he will need the run but as he is the best horse in the race, I can’t underestimate him.

Betting proposition: Captain’s Key

Place : Solar Captain

Race 7 – Rating 61-45 – 1650m

Top bet

Lord Googol : He came from far back to run an impressive second behind Accelero in his first attempt this year. He dropped the bit and only got back in the race from the 400m. He is nearing his best form and I’m expecting a big run from him this week as he will be equipped with blinkers for the first time here.

Betting proposition: Lord Googol

Place : Lancewood

Race 8 – Rating 56-40 – 1365m

Top 2

Joe’s Legacy : He is not quite consistent in his runs. He made a good comeback this year behind Gida, running on at finish. He is looking well and as he will jump from a good barrier, I will give him a good chance.

Up Company : He stayed one-paced behind Liquid Motion on Day 1. He needed the run as he has improved a lot at training since. He had a few good gallops under the belt and make no mistake, he will much more competitive this time.

Betting proposition: Joe’s Legacy

Place : Up Company

Race 9 – Rating 51-35 – 1650m

Top 2

Ghost Dog : He is looking for a fourth straight win. He had to dig deep last time to score. But as he is improving after each of his races, he may yet score again. He is the best finisher in the field.

Diamond Light : He is consistent and always tries his best. He ran a good race last time behind the good Ghost Dog despite being unbalanced at the 800m and steadied at the 300m. He has worked well on Tuesday and he will again show at finish.

Betting proposition: Ghost Dog, Diamond Light

Place : In Position

I really like Captain Vedici (R5H2) and Shahruhk (R8H3)

Hi guys!

I had my doubts the way one or two races were ran last week. I hope things will be different this coming Saturday. I really like Captain Vedici and the new-comer of trainer Maingard, Shahruhk.

Meeting 6 – Saturday April 20th 2013

Race 1 – Rating 25-0 – 1365m

Top 3

Ryder Cup : He can start with a bang here. This horse showed improvement in his last two starts in South Africa where he came second three times. He has been working well and even if there is still room for improvement, he is fit enough to give it a try.

Jack Flash : Will do well this year as he had shown ability in one or two of his races last year. He is looking good at training and even if he will be better in his next races, he can’t be written off here with his good draw.

Imperial Palace : He moved up at the 300m in his last start but could not sprint against Kite Surfer. He stayed one-paced throughout the whole final straight. He stands a chance on Saturday.

Betting proposition: Ryder Cup, Jack Flash

Place : Imperial Palace

Race 2 – Rating 36-20 – 1000m

Top 3

Golden Sheik : I’m only giving him a chance here because it’s a poor field. He won from start to finish last year and from his good draw, I think jockey Burke will believe he can make it.

Fort Stride : He had a moderate debut in Mauritius. But he is showing big improvement at training since. He will be blinkered for the first time here. I’m quite sure he will run a better race this time.

Sunday Monday : He is a good runner over 1000m. He is well drawn and he may have a dream run throughout until rounding the home turn. He will be a threat at finish.

Betting proposition : Golden Sheik, Fort Stride

Place : Sunday Monday

Race 3 – Rating 31-15 – 1400m

Top 3

Catch The Gers : The only way to get the best of out of him is to get him to the lead. He is very fast and in this field I’m confident jockey Ségeon will succeed in taking the lead. Hence, he stands a chance.

Smitten : He caught the eye in his debut run on Day 1. He looked winner but he was unfortunate to be carried wide by Cassido at a crucial stage. With a run under the belt, he is a fitter horse. Hence, he’s got a winning chance here.

Isipho : We all know what happened when ridden by apprentice Bheekary in his last start in 2012. He is a nice promising sort. He has been working well and definitely he remains a big threat here.

Betting proposition: Catch The Gers, Smitten

Place : Isipho

Race 4 – Rating 41-25 – 1400m

Top 2

Days Of Yore : He won a race last year and came twice second thereafter. He will produce his best form this year. I’ve seen him at training and I’m satisfied the way he has been performed. He is in with a chance despite his top weight.

Joyful : He won in the last strides on day 3. He is a competitive young horse who will shine again. He can race handy or even in the lead. He is better since his last run and his trainer will surely fancy his chances on Saturday.

Betting proposition: Days Of Yore, Joyful

Place : Joyful

Race 5 – Rating 46-30 – 1600m

Top 3

Captain Vedici : He ran a very decent race last time even if jockey Ladjadj did not ride a perfect race. This horse should have won against Prince Of Troy. He is a nice individual who will be a hard nut to crack if his rider gets it right this time. With a run under the belt, Captain Vedici will take a lot of beating. He is looking very good at training.

Bayard : He just can’t beat the jinx! He had everything in his favour two weeks ago but still he could not overcome Traianius. He is a long striding horse who needs to go well before the final straight. He remains the second winning chance in this one.

Halabaloo : He is a nice looking horse who will have his fair share of wins in Mauritius. He is a middle distance performer. He is looking good at training but he will definitely improve with a few runs under the belt. He can’t be written off. He stands a chance.

Betting proposition: Captain Vedici

Place : Bayard

Race 6 – Rating 62+ - 1400m

Top 3

Green Keeper : Jockey Geroudis gave him every chance to make a perfect start to 2013 but he just got beaten in the dying stages by the good Casey’s War. He lost the race when the gates opened. Had he taken the lead earlier, he would have won. It’s time for him to make amends!

Eskimo Roll : He had a wonderful season in 2012 winning six races. He has gone up in class but he will surely make his presence felt again this year. He usually runs well fresh and from his top draw, his trainer will fancy strongly his chance.

Master Mascus : After winning four in a row last year, he suffered defeat in his last two starts. But he did not disgrace as he was not outclassed by top horses like Tandragee in the Gold Cup and Acuppa during the International week-end. He is in good shape but surely he will get better. Under 54kg, he stands a chance.

Betting proposition: Green Keeper

Place : Eskimo Roll

Race 7 – Rating 25-0 – 1365m

Top 3

Kite Surfer : He won at ease in his firs start this year. He took the lead and stayed there without being put under pressure two weeks ago. He is the horse to beat and I’m expecting him to win a few races in a row.

Campus : Again he proved difficult to assist behind Cassido over 1000m. He ran on but his rider was never comfortable throughout the whole final straight. He is dropping in class and despite his top weight, he stands a chance here. He has worked really well with the side-winkers on Tuesday.

Hopes And Desires : He did not disgrace last time coming a length behind Mobschief. He has been working well this week and I do think he is one of the best candidates here. But he will have to overcome his poor draw.

Betting proposition: Kite Surfer

Place : Campus

Race 8 – Rating 51-35 – 1400m

Top 3

Sharuhk : Remember his name. This horse will have his fair share of wins in Mauritius. He is a two-time winner back in South Africa where he ran second four times. He raced against good horses there and as he is looking fit and well, I’m expecting him to start with a bang in Mauritius.

Beach Club : His trainer was expecting a good run from him last time but he just stayed one-paced behind Gida. He seems to have benefited from his first run as he is looking better at training. But he will have to somehow overcome his top weight.

Pablo : This horse is a fighter. He is always there fighting at finish. Last time I think jockey Burke took the wrong decision to go for an outside running. He could have finished second instead of third behind the good Liquid Motion. He is in good shape and a good run is expected from him.

Betting proposition: Shahruhk

Place : Beach Club
